Dubai: A National Geographic documentary on the 16-member UAE military expedition team which summited Mt. Everest was shown at DUCTAC Mall of the Emirates on Tuesday evening.

The one-hour Ob-Doc (observation documentary) follows the adventure of the 13 Emirati military men and three British trainers who climbed the world’s highest mountain in May this year.

Samer Arzouni, director and executive producer of Mission Everest: UAE Military Team, said: “The documentary captures the trek from start to finish. It follows the stories of the climbers, the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.”

“We had two high altitude camera operators and we were six people in the base camp. Our team was helped by sherpas – indigenous people of the mountain - who guided us at step. One of the sherpas even helped us as a camera assistant. The filming took one month.

Alex El Chami, pxecutive producer for National Geographic said: “As a network, we are very proud of the documentary and hoping to take it to various film festivals. The ob-doc has already had two reruns on National Geographic. While we are waiting for the rating numbers to come, it has seen a very positive response on the digital platform.”

“This is the third project we are doing on the armed forces. The previous ones were Every Emirati’s Son and Mission Kosovo.
