DUBAI: Tribeca hosts a brunch every Saturday, but last week they did it for a cause – raise money for a staff whose four-year-old daughter is battling cancer at a hospital in Dubai.

The JA Ocean View Hotel restaurant gave their entire proceeds from the brunch, around Dh10,000, to their finance assistant Sarfaraz Masih to help fund the medical treatment of her daughter Emica.

Masih, 42, who was unaware of the heartwarming gesture, said he was overwhelmed with emotion when restaurant general manager Carlos Santos handed him a cheque the following morning.

“I was left speechless. The restaurant management treats me like family and I don’t know how I could have managed without their timely help,” said Masih who hails from Pakistan.

Santos said they are in touch with local charities to secure more funds for Emica who has completed her extensive chemotherapy and will be on oral chemotherapy till April 2018. “She is recovering, and we hope to send her to school sometime next year,” said Masih.
