ABU DHABI: Con artists are targeting ticket buyers of one of the UAE’s biggest monthly raffles by sending them fake win notifications and asking for their bank details.

Abu Dhabi Airports confirmed to XPRESS that a hoax email has been circulating in the last week in which reference is made to the Big Ticket draw.

“Abu Dhabi Airports is working with DFS [luxury travel retailer] to ensure that all customers have been warned of this possible scam, both by email and via SMS, reminding them of the need to stay vigilant and providing advice on what to do if they received any suspicious messages,” the head of communications at Abu Dhabi Airports said in response to an XPRESS query.

Warning

A warning note has also been put up on the Big Ticket website. “We would like to remind all of you to stay alert and keep yourself protected from fraudulent messages sent to you through email and SMS, Your security and the integrity of our business are of paramount importance to us,” it reads

Running at Abu Dhabi International Airport since 1992, the hugely popular Abu Dhabi Duty Free’s (ADDF) Big Ticket Millionaire gives passengers, airport visitors and the general public a chance to win big prizes.

Tickets cost Dh500 and can be purchased online or at key locations. Winners are notified by ADDF staff either by phone or via email sent from the bigticket.ae address.

“Big Ticket will never ask for personal or bank account information by email. If you receive any suspicious email or text message, we strongly advise you to immediately delete it,” said an ADDF staff.

“All ticket buyers also receive an SMS with the list of winning ticket numbers. If your ticket number is not on the list and you received an email claiming you have won a prize from us, the email you receive is fraudulent and you should delete it,” he added.
