DUBAI: An Egyptian family of four is seeking help to ward off an imminent eviction from their Muhaisnah home in Dubai.

Mohammad Rafath, 48, his wife and two children ages 14 and 10 have until August 20 to find a new roof over their heads as their landlord has served them an eviction notice.

Rafath, who has been in the UAE for 22 years, said his problem started when his employer fired him in April 2015 and also initiated legal proceedings against him.

“It has all been downhill since then and now things have come to such a pass that I am almost broke. My children have been forced to drop out of school and I fear soon they might be rendered homeless as well,” he said holding back tears.

Rafath, who owes Dh60,000 to his landlord, said he has exhausted all his savings and has no money to clear the dues. My passport is stuck in court which means I can’t land a job. I want to send my family back but can’t even afford to pay for their air tickets. We have been surviving on charity.

Looming deadline

“The landlord has given us until August 20 to pay the rent or vacate the house. All I want is a roof over our head on Eid. I don’t want to fail as a father in front of my children,” he said.
