Abu Dhabi Aldar Academies has opened two new schools to ease the crisis of school seats in Abu Dhabi.

West Yas Academy and Al Mamoura Academy were inaugurated on October 6, offering 3,600 additional seats.

Aldar chairman Mohammad Al Mubarak said they are planning to open more schools to meet growing demands in new residential communities like Khalifa City, Al Raha Beach and Reem Island.

“What we see here today is one of the many steps Aldar Academies is taking towards supporting the emirate’s growth,” Al Mubarak said at the inauguration.

Unique curriculum

Located at Yas Island, West Yas Academy is the first American Massachusetts State Curriculum school in the brand’s portfolio.

Principal Dr Jerry Chabot said the curriculum is unique in the sense that it prepares students with 21st century skills. “The curriculum emphasises on subjects like math, science, technology and engineering,” he said. Currently 283 students have registered for grades KG1 to Grade 6 but the numbers are expected to reach 1,800 in due course.

First girls-only secondary school

Al Mamoura Academy, located near the Sea Palace off the East Ring Road, is a mixed primary school and Aldar Academies’ first girls-only secondary school.

It will offer the English National Curriculum for international students during the primary and secondary years. During years 12 and 13, students will have the choice to continue with British A-Levels or study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Over 900 students have already enrolled and the number is expected to double. Unique 3D learning screens will be used here to help students understand abstract concepts.

Nilay Ozral, CEO of Aldar Academies, said, “In 2007 when our first school, The Pearl Academy, opened its doors to our first 247 primary age students, we had a clear vision in mind: to deliver the highest standards of education and inspire our students to learn. Even after nine years of growth, these goals remain at the heart of everything we do.”
