DUBAI The much-awaited VOX Cinemas at Bur Dubai’s BurJuman is all set to open this weekend.

Vox Cinemas CEO Cameron Mitchell told XPRESS on Tuesday: “Majid Al Futtaim will open its new VOX BurJuman cinema on Thursday, May 14, in the BurJuman Centre.”

He added: “The cinema will feature our very own large format VOX MAX screen with Dolby Atmos digital surround sound, four VOX GOLD VIP luxury cinemas offering a gourmet and extensive hot food menu, two private guest lounges with adjoining restrooms, a VOX Kids themed cinema available for private hire such as kids birthday parties, and eight traditional cinemas.”

Multi-million dirham venture

Mitchell said: “The cinema represents a multi-million dirham investment by Majid Al Futtaim, and we are delighted to join our sister company Carrefour in offering the residents of Bur Dubai, two new exciting and modern complements to the BurJuman Centre. We have had an enormous amount of interest from the public since announcing this new location, and we are delighted to have partnered with the BurJuman Centre, and are incredibly appreciative of the support offered by Majid Al Ghurair, and the BurJuman Centre management team in helping us develop and open the doors to this fantastic new cinema facility.”

He said: “VOX Cinemas at BurJuman is the 10th VOX Cinema to open in the UAE and starts our aggressive 2015 development plans which include new projects and expansion of current cinemas planned for Mall of the Emirates, Abu Dhabi’s Nation Towers, The Shindaga Centre and City Centre Deira. VOX will be giving away Dh20,000 worth of Saks 5th Avenue shopping vouchers in the first month to some lucky customers that visit VOX at BurJuman.”

With the launch of the 14-screen cinemas now, BurJuman is expected to plug an existing gap in recreational options available in the area and serve the complete needs of the densely populated neighbourhood.

“I can’t wait for next week. Imagine being able to walk into a cinema next door,” said Sheela, an Indian housewife who lives on Bank Street.

“Can’t ask for more,” echoed businessman Sridhar from Karama.

“BurJuman has catered to all our needs now. A high end boutique mall with some of the best brands in town, the addition of Carrefour and the cinemas has made it a one-stop shop for us in the neighbourhood.”

Movie releases, timings and bookings will go live on www.voxcinemas.com on May 15.
