DUBAI If you have been thinking of buying that latest DSLR camera or the retina display ipad then GITEX SHOPPER’s Spring edition is the place for you.
A shortened version of the autumn edition, the tech show offers has got gizmo lovers excited all over again. “I have been planning to upgrade the lenses to the camera I bought at the GITEX shopper last September. It will be the same venue, but I guess with bigger deals I can’t afford to miss. The last time I bought the camera, I got a tablet worth Dh799 free. You never know what you stand to get this time,” said Briton Jo Harper, a Dubai-based freelance photographer and GITEX regular who is also on the lookout for the latest deals on smartphones and tablets.

“We’re expecting a wave of excited shoppers on the lookout for new launches such as the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge, which are available for pre-orders at Gitex Shopper Spring 2015. The S6 Edge’s innovative display is bound to stir some interest,” said Nadeem Khanzadah, the retail head of Jumbo Electronics who are giving out everything from Sennheiser headsets to selfie sticks as free premium add-ons for buyers besides free iPad minis and Dh5,000 worth of gift vouchers.
“There is such great demand for consumer electronics throughout the region that both GITEX Shopper Spring and Autumn editions are highly anticipated,” Hassan Mosafer, exhibition director, Dubai World Trade Centre told XPRESS. “This year we have over 20 first time brands and retailers, exciting product launches, more competitions and giveaways than ever before and promotions on over 30,000 products.”
One prominent newcomer will be Obi Mobiles, a new venture by ex-Apple CEO John Sculley. As event promotion partners, they are offering up to 40 to 50 per cent off on Obi devices, as well as a variety of value-added product bundles with accessories, two phones for the price of one, accessories and vouchers.
Amit Rupchandani, managing director of Obi Mobiles EMEA, said: “This is only our second run at a Gitex event, but we are geared to make a splash, and strengthen our relationship with consumers through well-thought-out offers and deals,” said Rupchandani whose company is running a 1+1 bundle offer plus flip/back cover and screen protector promotion for two of his top selling phones Obi Racoon S401 and Obi Wolverine S501.
