DUBAI The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is raising the bar for aspiring taxi drivers in Dubai.

From the third week of September, they will have to pass a psychometric test to assess their mental capabilities and behavioral styles.

Candidates will be tested on five competency levels - customer service, communication, problem solving skills, temper and personal management.

The test is not for existing cabbies. RTA is in the process of selecting a company to prepare the test.

“Taxi franchises are not involved in the preparation of the module. We will define their role once the test module is approved,” said Yousif Mohammad Al Ali, member of the board and chief executive officer, Public Transport Agency (PTA), RTA.

“Cabbies are among the first people to interact with tourists and visitors in the city. It is important they make a good impression. We want to ensure world-class standards of customer service are set in Dubai’s taxi industry,” he said.
