DUBAI A desperate Indian father of twins born pre-mature at a private hospital in Dubai is seeking help to repay bills.

Valerian Dias, 40, said his twins (a boy and girl yet to be named) were born on June 17 after his wife developed complications and was forced to deliver at 27 weeks. “They have been in neonatal intensive care unit ever since. It costs Dh32,000 per week per child. They have been here for two weeks and are expected to stay another 45 days,” said the father, an engineer in a private firm.

“My company pitched in with Dh25,000. Additionally I borrowed Dh75,000 to settle some of the mounting bill which is likely to touch Dh500,000. I don’t know where I am going to find this money from,” said Dias.

Delma, mother of the twins, said she would have gone back to India if she had known she would develop complications.

“Until a week before the children were born, everything was going smooth. Suddenly I started bleeding and the doctors had to operate on me. Now we are stuck here with a fat bill.”
