DUBAI The mother of a premature baby that died of severe complications on March 21 is desperate to raise funds to clear her hospital dues.

Dubai-based Mariam, 30, told XPRESS that her baby boy Mustafa arrived way ahead of time on March 4 when she was still in the 23rd week of gestation.

“I went into premature labour and was rushed to Latifa Hospital where the baby was born through normal delivery. But he weighed just 520 grams and was very critical.”

Respiratory distress

A copy of the medical report from the hospital said the baby of the “unbooked mother”, who had extremely low weight and suffered from respiratory distress and other complications, was shifted to the NICU where he was intubated and put on mechanical ventilation. It said the child also suffered neonatal convulsions and renal problems, for which he was treated.

Mariam said the baby fought for his life for two weeks before passing away last Saturday.

Still in shock, she said: “I cannot believe what has happened. I was having a smooth pregnancy and all of a sudden things went horribly wrong.”

But the despaired mother has had little time to grieve over her loss as an unpaid hospital bill of Dh70,000 hangs over her head.

Ad sales staff in a media organisation, Mariam said her family income is insufficient to meet the expense. “We cannot come up with such a huge amount without help. I appeal to the public to please come to our rescue. I want to clear the bill as soon as possible so my baby can rest in peace.”
