DUBAI Two Malayalam cinema heavyweights are reaching out to the UAE community by launching a unique music school that caters only to grown-ups. The brainchild of Indian National Award playback singer M.G. Sreekumar and filmmaker Soman Ambaat, the school - Saregama 30+ Music for You - will begin classes at the Insight Professionals Institute in Karama, Dubai, from next month.

“We found a huge need for such a venture in the UAE. Many expats have learnt music as children but have discontinued during the course of their life. A lot of them want to learn again but it is difficult to start from scratch. So we came up with appropriate programmes to fill the gap,” said Ambaat.

He said: “Our main objective is to provide music as a form of therapy for grown-ups who are invariably stressed because of work pressure, loneliness, financial problems etc.”

The school is as much for beginners as it is for old students of music. “We will start from the fundamentals of classic music for beginners but those who have already had a basic training in music will be taught separately. Everybody will have the opportunity to learn light music as well,” said Ambaat.

The classes will be conducted twice a week by well-known classical music master Peringode Rajan. M.G. Sreekumar will personally hold three classes every month. The school, which will be open from 9am to 9pm, will charge Dh300 a month.
