DUBAI The city of Dubai has seen a sudden spurt in private hospitals in recent days. Late last year, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) issued 301 new licences and approved 10 new hospitals in the private sector to cater to the needs of a steadily growing population. Many of them are under construction and some are already up and running. XPRESS does the rounds of four new hospitals that have been launched over the last few months.

Aster Hospital-Mankhool

This 100-bed hospital run by Aster DM Healthcare, opened in January. Located in Mankhool, Bur Dubai, it is spread over 190,000 square feet. Its specialities include Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynae-cology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Endocrinology, Urology, Neuro-logy, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Audiology and Physiotherapy, be-sides emergency care. It boasts cutting-edge technology including a 1.5 Tesla MRI, 16 slice spiral CT scanner, 4D ultra-sound-scanner and digital X-rays. Aster’s chairman Dr Azad Moopen said this is the first of five Aster DM Hospitals that are in various stages of construction in the UAE. The under construction projects include one in Qusais and another boutique woman and child hospital on Shaikh Zayed Road.

Medeor 24/7

Located in Bur Dubai (Um Hurair), close to BurJuman Centre, this is a 70-bed multispecialty family hospital. It is a product of the VPS Healthcare Group, spearheaded by Dr Shamsheer Vayalil who has nine hospitals in the UAE. Group director Dr Ibtesam Al Bastaki said: “We had a soft launch in January 2015. The main specialties offered include Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We also have expertise in urology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, ENT and emergency care. Our doctors are highly qualified and experienced and we have a full-fledged diagnostic and imaging facility as well.”

Thumbay Hospital

Part of the Thumbay Group of academic hospitals, including the GMC Hospital in Ajman, this 150-bed multi-speciality hospital is located in Qusais. It has 18 surgical OPDs, eight Internal Medicine and Cardiology OPDs and four Obs and Gynecology OPDs. It also includes a 25-chamber Medical Dental Hospital within the campus which is believed to be the largest dental hospital in Dubai. It also boasts three operating theatres, a 1.5 Tesla MRI, 128 slice CT, 4D ultrasound scanners, fluoroscopy and digital mammography.

Conceive Gynaecology & Fertility Hospital

Just launched in Jumeirah Lake Towers, this fertility hospital brings 11 years of experience in the UAE. Founder Dr Pankaj Shrivastav has helped infertile couples conceive over 2,900 babies at the Sharjah branch since 2004. The hospital offers both traditional treatments and the newest procedures derived from research centres the world over. Dr Shrivastav has also done pioneering work in ovarian hyperstimulation and surgical retrieval of sperm (PESA and TeSA) which are now routine techniques in fertility units worldwide.
