DUBAI An Indian jewellery store in Dubai – GRT Jewellers - is unveiling a pair of gold earrings weighing a staggering 1kg on Thursday.

The masterpiece danglers are set in the traditional jhumka style. A jhumka is a bell-shaped earpiece usually set in gold and precious stones, with pearls hanging at the lower end.

With three such gold bells, the 1kg earrings will be launched by South Indian actress Nayantara at GRT Jewellers’ showroom in Karama, where three such sets will go on display.

Despite repeated requests, XPRESS could not get more details about the earrings --- whether they were up for sale, how much they would cost and how their heavy weight would hold on delicate earlobes.

Spectacular

In a statement, G.R. ‘Anand’ Ananthapadmanabhan, managing director of GRT Jewellers, said, “The decision to create the 1kg earrings stems out of wanting to introduce new angles to traditional jewellery and we hope that our customers share our enthusiasm in creating something spectacular and different. Even though we are new in the market, we have received an overwhelming response and we see this as an opportunity to thank our patrons.”

Winners of a raffle promotion held earlier at the showroom will also receive attractive awards on the special day, including a 1kg gold bridal set, 10 diamond necklaces and 100 return tickets to India for couples.
