DUBAI The Dubai Dogs Society (DDS) is organising a unique event at Al Qudra Lake on Nov-ember 27 for dogs and dog lovers.

Called the Al Qudra Walk Challenge, the 3km walk from the cycling course to the lake will be open to all UAE residents and their furry friends from 7am to 10am. The aim of the walk is to emphasise the importance of exercise to keep dogs in good health.

“We’ve held many such walks before, but with the aim of getting the dogs to socialise. This time, however, the main focus will be on exercising. The 3km walk should take around 30-45 minutes and we hope participants will understand the importance of exercise for their pets by the time they leave,” said Nasser of the DDS.

Harnessing energy

He said the purpose of the event is to educate people about how they should raise their dogs. “It’s not just about loving your dog. It’s also about understanding their needs and what is good for them. Dogs have a lot of energy. Unless it is harnessed, it will build up and manifest itself in aggressive forms of behaviour. People also must learn to walk their dogs properly. Our event will provide tips on all such issues.”

Nasser said anyone is free to join the event. “Registrations will be on the spot and there will be no charges. However, dog owners must carry the passports of their pets as we will check their vaccination records.

All dogs have to be on leash and unfriendly dogs have to be muzzled.” He said DDS’ earlier campaigns had made a difference with picking up after the dogs.

“We’ve run educational campaign on this issue and have seen a visible change,” he noted.
