Abu DHABI A Facebook campaign to encourage people to give back to the environment has been launched in Abu Dhabi this Ramadan.

The Go Green for Ramadan campaign celebrates the city’s prestigious win as the Environmental Capital and asks residents to come up with innovative ways to reduce the carbon footprint.

The campaign is an initiative of Abu Dhabi-based Pro Partner Group in collaboration with local artist Amira Rahim and Traders Hotel by Shangri La.

To participate in the competition, residents have to go to Pro Partner Group’s Facebook page and share ideas on how to give back to the environment.

The two best entries will win an organic iftar meal for two at Traders Hotel by Shangri-La or a canvas hand-embellished with ink of the Grand Mosque by Amira Rahim.

James Swallow, commercial director at Pro Partner Group, said the campaign reflects the true spirit of giving in Ramadan.

“The spirit of Ramadan is all about reflection and charity and this campaign is a good reminder that we can all abstain and consume less to protect our environment and give back to ensure we live more sustainably for future generations,” said Swallow.

Rahim said she was happy to be part of the campaign that stands for a great cause.

“What better way is there to be charitable than to reduce our carbon footprint for the generations to come? During the month of Ramadan, Muslims are fasting for the majority of their waking hours.

“As a result, we are naturally consuming less than we normally would throughout the year. I think this campaign is a great reminder for us to be modest not only in our outward appearances but also in our daily actions,” she said.
