Patna: A man in Bihar killed his only daughter after his wife took time to cook mutton that he wanted to eat soon.

Employed outside the state, he had returned home only recently to attend a festival. He has been arrested and sent to jail.

Police said the accused, Shobha Lal Sharma, a resident of Amour block in eastern Bihar’s Purnia district, bought home meat from the market on Thursday and asked his wife to cook it.

But their little daughter insisted on buying some food items from the market, and his wife rushed out to get them, apparently delaying cooking the mutton.

In a fit of rage, sharma grabbed his four-year-old daughter and threw her down on the concrete floor by her head, wounding her critically. Sensing the gravity of the situation, her took her instantly to the local hospital, but she was declared brought dead.

Reports said the accused soon tried to flee the scene, but the local villagers caught him and handed him over to the local police.

“The man had a heated exchange with his wife when she didn’t cook the mutton by 1pm yesterday (Thursday). In a fit of rage, he caught the daughter and slammed her head on the floor. She died soon thereafter,” a local police official, Pankaj Kumar, told the media on Friday.

According to the police, the man looked regretful of his act during interrogation. “This happened all of a sudden. I didn’t want to harm her,” he was quoted as saying.

This the second incident of domestic violence surrounding mutton, in quick succession. Earlier, a man from the neighbouring Araria district set his young wife on fire after she forgot to add salt to the mutton dish she cooked. She survived with severe burns.
