Ramallah: The family of a Palestinian woman murdered on Wednesday said she posed no threat to the Israeli occupation forces who shot her, a relative told Gulf News.

The woman, Rahiq Shajei Mohammad Beerawi, 23, was a US resident who married an American citizen earlier this year, Gulf News learned while speaking to relatives.

She was on vacation in Palestine visiting her family at the time of her murder.

Unofficial video footage, aired by Israeli media, shows the soldiers continuing to fire bullets at her even after she was lying motionless and bleeding.

“The entire area of the Za’atarah Junction is a military zone and under strict camera surveillance. International legal and human rights organisations should step in and force Israel to hand over camera footage,” Nasser Jawabrah, a relative of the victim said.

Palestinian authorities have already collected testimonies of dozens of Palestinians who witnessed the murder.

Israeli forces have yet to hand over Beerawi’s body.

Since October 2015, more than 240 Palestinians as well as 38 Israelis have died in a wave of violence which has rocked Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Heightened violence has been caused by increased Israeli colony expansion and Jewish raids on Al Haram Al Sharif of occupied East Jerusalem--the third most holy site in Islam.

Legal and human rights organisations have accused Israel of extrajudicial killings against Palestinians.
