Lamya Abedin, the founder of fashion boutique Queen of Spades, believes in creating innovative designs for her abayas. An Emirati woman with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Lamya wanted more from life than to pursue a regular job. Lamya’s work speaks of her penchant for fashion, styling, make-up and interior decoration. Under her care the national dress acquires a modern, fashionable look. Her designs resonate with multiple inspirations from traditional clothes as varied as kimonos from Japan, saris from the Indian subcontinent and even pantaloons. As the first to have created a jumpsuit-style abaya, a travel abaya, a maternity abaya and sports abaya, she is a favourite with young fashionistas.
For Lamya, designing abayas was a labour of love and began when she moved to Jeddah in 2008 and started experimenting with fabric, design, workmanship and craftsmanship. Today, Queen of Spades is known to offer exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces to its clientele.
Lamya has seen success around the world and has collaborated with international brands including Cadillac, Honore des Pres perfumes, Akillis, Ritz Carlton, Guerlain, Ayyam Gallery and Anfasic Dokhoon. She has recently launched her diffusion line Spades by Queen of Spades with a collection of ready-to-wear abayas targeted at her younger clientele at United Designers boutique at Mirdif City Centre.
