Sunanda Pushkar, an Indo-Canadian, was born into a Kashmiri Pandit family in 1964, Sunanda had a rollercoaster life. She fell in love with fellow hotel management student Sanjay Raina and married him, only to get divorced in 1988. She left India for Dubai in 1989, and married Sujith Menon in 1991. Menon, father of her only son, died in 1997.
Sunanda migrated to Canada and returned to Dubai in 2004 starting her own business.
She met Shashi Tharoor at a party in Dubai in 2007 for the first time and got closer after Tharoor divorced his Canadian wife Christa Giles. They started dating in public in 2009 and got married in 2010.
Their marriage reportedly had run into trouble which may have led to the untimely end of Sunanda, with police declaring she was murdered in her hotel suite.
