Abu Dhabi: Slaughterhouses across the capital are geared to deal with the Eid rush, and will operate from 6am to 6pm on Eid days, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced on Tuesday.

The timings apply to the Abu Dhabi Public Slaughterhouse at Al Mina, Al Shahama Slaughterhouse and Bani Yas Slaughterhouse. Al Wathba Modern Slaughterhouse will meanwhile be open from 8am to 4pm.

Khalifa Al Rumaithi, director of public health at the municipality, said the facilities have processed 47,000 animals during Ramadan, including 15,831 sheep, 30,410 goats, 971 cows and 540 camels.

A pre-slaughtering screening for all animals also found a number of animals unfit for human consumption, and 227 of them were therefore euthanised.

Al Rumaithi urged residents to avoid slaughtering animals outside designated facilities to protect public health and safety.
