Dubai: The knowledge management department of Dubai Municipality has launched a charity drive to collect new and used Qurans and prayer mats from its employees, for distribution to the needy.

The month-long drive started on Wednesday and is aimed at helping needy people in many parts of the world in coordination with charity organisations in the country.

Mariam Bin Fahd, director of the department, said: “We started this community drive based on the suggestion of our employees. A majority of us have many Quran copies and prayer mats at home, which are not used or very rarely used. This is a good chance for all to donate and get rewards as there are a lot of people around us who can’t even buy a new Quran or prayer mat.”

She added: “We will collect the contributions in the main building during normal working hours throughout the month and hand them over to charity organisations to distribute inside and outside the UAE.”
