Islamabad: Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority has decided not to allow more than one person to enter airport buildings across the country to receive or see off passengers.

The restriction, which went into effect from Sunday, is part of comprehensive measures to ensure foolproof security at airports following two recent serious incidents.

In June, heavily armed militants attacked the Karachi airport and later a landing passenger plane came under fire at the Peshawar airport.

The incidents were said to be linked mainly to local and foreign militant groups in the North Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

The Pakistani military on June 15 launched a full-scale operation in the mountainous tribal region to wipe out militant sanctuaries. The operation continues and according to the military around 400 terrorists have been killed so far.
