Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president and member of Lok Sabha Asaduddin Owaisi has lashed out at the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh for its failure to prevent the transfer of material for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya.

He asked how the government could allow the movement when the matter was pending before the Supreme Court. “Not even a bird can flutter its feather there till the court gives its verdict”, he said.

Addressing a mammoth gathering on the occasion of Milad Al Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), in Hyderabad, Owaisi said ring-wing groups’ provocative activities could create a serious problem in the state. He said that the UP government and the Sangh Parivar outfits were trying to create trouble over Ayodhya.

He demanded that the government immediately seize stones brought to Ayodhya.

He said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been elected to improve the lot of the poor and the farmers, not to build temples.

He also charged the BJP with adopting double standards on the issue of the national flag. Pointing out that a Muslim couple was hounded out of a cinema hall in Mumbai when they did not stand up for the national anthem, he wondered how right-wing groups would respond to Modi walking way when the anthem was being played in Russia.

On the forthcoming elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Owaisi said MIM would win hands down. He asked the gathering whether they would vote for Hyderabadis or baheris (outsiders) in the GHMC elections. The crowd roared back: Hyderabadi.

“There cannot be a bigger Hyderabadi than me”, he then said.
