Iraq-American admits to spying for Saddam

Detroit: An Iraq-born Michigan man has pleaded guilty to spying for the intelligence service of Saddam Hussein.

Federal prosecutors charged him and another man based on Iraqi intelligence documents that US forces captured in Iraq in 2003.

Seventyeight-year-old Ghazi Al Awadi of Dearborn entered the plea on Wednesday in Detroit federal court in a deal that sets his maximum penalty at four years, three months in prison.
He goes for sentencing in November.

Fiftyeight -year-old Najib Shemami of Sterling Heights also was charged in the case and has a pre-trial conference tomorrow.
