London: A university student from London has been found dead in her halls of residence after suffering a suspected brain haemorrhage.

Sarah Hurley, 18, died in her room on the University of Northampton campus hours after complaining of severe neck pain and partial paralysis.

Family and friends paid tribute to the popular student on Monday as they revealed she may have had an undiagnosed brain tumour. Her sister Louise, 23, said: "Sarah had worked extremely hard to get into university and being there had made her the happiest she has ever been. In recent months she had blossomed into a confident young lady."

Hurley, who began her sociology degree course in September, did not join friends on a night out last Wednesday because she was feeling ill. The next morning they went to check on her and discovered her body on the floor of her en suite bathroom.

Shocked and upset

Victoria Lonsdale, who has the room next door, said: "She told me she had a bad headache and severe neck pains, and was complaining she was paralysed down one side of her body.

"She threw up but then said she was feeling a bit better, and she was fine when we went out at 10pm. We are really shocked at her death and extremely upset. I only knew her for a couple of months but it seemed like much longer and we were very close.

"She was a caring, warm person who didn't drink too much and didn't take drugs of any kind."

Hurley lived with her mother Alison, a nurse, and IT worker father Stephen, at their home in Middlesex.
