Two more held over bomb attacks

Jordanian doctor held as police arrest two more suspects in UK attacks

Last updated:

London: British investigators have arrested two more men in connection with the failed car bomb attack at Glasgow airport and in London, the Strathclyde police have said.

The arrests of the men takes the total number of people arrested over the attempted bombings to seven.

Meanwhile, Jordanian officials on Monday identified one of the suspects arrested as Jordanian doctor Mohammad Asha.

Asha, who worked at the North Staffordshire Hospital, was arrested in Cheshire on Saturday night. He is thought to have masterminded the attack in Glasgow.

Another doctor involved in the Glasgow attack is an Iraqi who is thought to have been granted asylum in the UK while a third suspect comes from Lebanon, the Daily Mail reported.

British police continued their hunt for suspects on Monday. Security has been increased in the UK and vehicles have been banned from directly approaching airports.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith urged the public to be on alert, saying that Britain was facing a “serious and sustained threat of terrorism''.

"We are not going to let this terrorism intimidate us," she told British channel Sky News. "But ... obviously we need the increased security measures that are in place and we need the public to carry on being as vigilant as possible."
