Shotgun blast kills 15-year-old boy in Derby

London: The 15-year-old boy, who was gunned down in Derby after an argument with a group of youths in a local park, died from a single blast from a shotgun, police said yesterday.
Kadeem Blackwood died in hospital after being shot as he walked with friends in the Caxton Street recreation ground on Tuesday.
"Our investigations reveal that this incident appears to be the result of a disagreement between two people which tragically escalated to this shooting," said the assistant chief constable, Peter Goodman.
A post-mortem revealed that Blackwood was shot in the chest at what was thought to be close range.
Detectives are still quizzing a 19-year-old man arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of murder, but said they were looking for other suspects in connection with the killing.
However, they have ruled out the attack being a drive-by shooting.
'Excellent response'
"Far from being met by a wall of silence, residents have been excellent in their response to us," Goodman said. "We have obtained a number of significant statements, but we would appeal again for anyone with information which might be relevant to contact us."
Newspapers said Blackwood was a member of a gang in Derby and that the shooting was the result of a feud. Police have not commented on the speculation.
Blackwood's grandmother, whom police did not name, said he was a loving grandson. "He had good manners, was always polite and always smiling," she said.
Teenage murders have regularly made the headlines this year although the vast majority have involved knives rather than guns.
