Scarlett's body missing vital organs, third autopsy reveals
The body of Scarlett Keeling, the British teenager who was raped and murdered in Goa, was returned to the UK with some internal organs missing, a new autopsy has shown.
London: The body of Scarlett Keeling, the British teenager who was raped and murdered in Goa, was returned to the UK with some internal organs missing, a new autopsy has shown.
Vikram Varma, lawyer for the teenager's mother Fiona MacKeown, said it revealed the uterus, kidneys and stomach were missing.
He added: "I am waiting for an email from the coroner confirming in writing what is missing so I can then take it up with the Ministry of Health. There is no reason to take these organs, a doctor only takes a sample of an organ for tests. To remove the whole organ without written consent is not permissible."
Scarlett was found on Anjuna beach, Goa, India, on February 19.
Police initially said she died from accidental drowning but, after pressure from Mrs MacKeown, a second post-mortem was carried out which revealed she was raped and killed.
Detectives also said it showed Scarlett was given ecstasy, cocaine and LSD on the night she died.
Samson D'Souza, 28, was remanded in custody on suspicion of rape, and Placido Carvalho, aged between 30 and 35, has appeared in court on suspicion of drugging Scarlett and assisting in her murder.
Scarlett's mother Fiona MacKeown, 43, from Bradworthy, north Devon, has claimed that links between police officials, politicians and the drugs mafia have hampered a proper investigation.
"I can't begin to imagine why somebody would want to take her uterus," Mrs MacKeown said.
She said she will travel to India to find out why parts of her daughter's body are missing.
The case has been handed over to the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation.
Nerlon Albuquerque, the police officer who first investigated the case, was dismissed last Friday.
