London: Demonstrators have climbed onto the roof of Britain's Houses of Parliament to protest against plans to build a third runway at Heathrow Airport.
Protestors from the pressure group Plane Stupid evaded heavy security, including armed guards, to make it onto the roof, throw paper planes and unveil a banner simply saying ‘No third runway'.
Police said five people have been detained and are likely to be charged with trespassing.
One of the protestors said they wanted to bring attention to what they called ‘weak leadership' from British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the issue of aviation and climate change.
Richard George also claimed they got into the Parliament building as visitors, “went up in a lift and walked out onto the roof''.
