Manila : A quick-thinking woman in suburban Valenzuela City successfully foiled an attempt by a burglar to ransack her apartment by locking up the suspect in her bedroom before calling the police.
Nenita dela Cruz, 42, had just returned to her apartment early on Tuesday evening when she noticed that the main door was ajar and that someone had apparently broken into her residence.
Wary of alarming the suspect of her presence, Dela Cruz quietly went upstairs and saw the man already collecting her cash and valuables.
Dela Cruz immediately ran outside and locked the door from the outside, trapping the suspect inside.
She sought the help of two police officers who were patrolling the neighbourhood.
"The man was apparently starting to collect cash and valuables in the room when the owner of the house immediately locked the door from the outside, practically trapping the suspect inside," city police chief, Senior Superintendent Rainier Idio was quoted as saying in a Philippine Star report.
