Manila: Two government offices demanded from Willie Revillame, a comedian and a TV host, 8 million pesos (Dh727,272) payment in taxes for a Ferrari car which he bought for 30 million pesos.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said it will not renew the registration of Revillame's Ferrari if he cannot present a clearance from the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Owners of imported cars can get BOC clearance only after the payment of duties and taxes to the government.
Second owner
The importer or the consignee of Revillame's Ferrari had paid only 8,000 pesos in taxes. Revillame was the car's second owner, reports said.
His Ferrari was one of the 10,000 luxury cars and SUVs that were brought into the country through a port in Cebu in the central region.
Many importers and buyers have not paid the full duty and taxes for luxury cars that were smuggled into the country, said Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales.
