Manila: The man suspected of killing the father of internationally renowned singer Charice Pempengco surrendered to a local government leader in southern Luzon and was brought to the police headquarters in suburban Quezon City on Wednesday afternoon.
Angel Capili Jr., identified as the suspect in Ricky Pempengco's killing, surrendered to Mayor Luis Ferrer of General Trias in the province of Cavite, Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz of Cavite said in a radio interview.
Cavite provincial police director Senior Superintendent John Bulalacao led the team that brought Capili to the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, said Cruz
Charice, the singer, went to Camp Crame to meet Capili, said Cruz, adding, "They had a chance to speak to each other. She was very sad."
When Capili surrendered in Cavite, he claimed he did not go into hiding, said Cruz, adding that Capili also said he did not know Pempengco personally, but they had an altercation near a convenience store in San Pedro, Laguna.
Witnesses said that Capili stabbed Pempengco with an ice-pick three times, in the chest and back while the victim was buying cigarettes from a store. Capili, a resident of southern suburban Cavite, went to nearby Laguna to have a drink with his friends.
