Manila: Philippine President Gloria Arroyo has declared public holidays on September 7 and September 21, according to a statement from the office of the Press Secretary.

Financial markets in the nation will be closed on those days, said central bank Governor Amando Tetangco.

September 7 has been declared a national day of mourning for religious figure Erano Manalo, while September 21 will mark Eid Al Fitr, the end of Ramadan.

Manalo is the executive minister of the three-million strong Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ). He died on August 31 at the age of 84.

Manalo's father, Felix, founded Iglesia ni Cristo in 1914. Eraño, also known as Ka Erdy, took over the administration of the church after the death of his father in 1963.

Iglesia ni Cristo has over 5,400 local congregations in 90 countries, including the Middle East, with a membership composed of 102 nationalities.

Iglesia ni Cristo embraces a theology contrary to the beliefs of the Roman Catholic church and believes that the elder Manalo was God's last messenger.
