Manila: Two milk products from China were banned from stores in the Philippines after they tested positive for melamine, health officials said on Friday.
The products, Green Food Yili fresh milk and a Mengniu milk drink, were illegally brought into the country.
"They did not have labels in English," said Health Secretary Francisco Duque.
A supermarket in Manila was shut down because it continued to carry the two brands despite warning from authorities about the dangers of milk products from China, said Duque.
Those who have consumed the said products must undergo tests, warned Duque, but added: "There have been no reports coming from our hospitals, whom we ordered to report to us cases of kidney problems that may have some associations with the intake of milk tainted with melamine."
Earlier, Duque asked hospitals to check the milk products given to babies, and to scrutinise the diet of those with kidney problems.
Meanwhile, 28 other products from China and other countries were found negative for melamine, said health department's Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) laboratory chief Maria Lourdes Santiago.
These were milk and chocolate products, and some of them were manufactured by industry giants such as Nido, M&M, and Snickers.
