Manila: TV personality and movie star Kris Aquino, the popular sister of President Benigno Aquino, predicted that cases might be filed against her brother after the end of his term in 2016, adding she will be there for him when that happens.

“I am sure, [and] let’s be honest, many cases [might be filed against him] in 2016,” said Ms. Aquino at the Buzz, a popular weekend talk show with TV personality Boy Abunda, the transcript of which was released on Tuesday.

“At the time, he is still young, at 56. He will need me. I’ll be there for him. Family first,” said Aquino.

This and her vow to be a dedicated mother to her children Josh and James Jr are two reasons why she is not running for public office in 2016, she said at the Buzz.

Sources believe that opposition leaders could file cases against Aquino in the future.

A technical corruption case might be filed against Aquino because the Supreme Court ruled in July 2014 that his creation of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) in 2011, with funding from savings of line agencies was unconstitutional, a source who requested for anonymity said.

Oppositionists called DAP as Aquino’s alleged pork barrel.

Former Supreme Court chief justice Renato Corona might also file a cases related to his impeachment at the senate.

A senator revealed earlier that DAP was the source of the additional pork barrel given to 19 senators (even if they have respective yearly allotment of development funds) in late 2012 to early 2013, several months after Corona’s impeachment in May 2012.

A case might be filed against Aquino for allegedly pressuring authorities to fast track the filing of plunder cases against opposition leaders, the same source said.

Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla were imprisoned in 2014 for allegedly earning from their development funds — they allegedly allowed the release of development funds to non-existing livelihood enhancement projects to be supposedly implemented by non-functioning nongovernment agencies.

Aquino was blamed for allegedly pursuing the imprisonment of former President Gloria Arroyo at a time when the cases filed against her were still at the fiscal’s office, the same source said.

Aquino could be accused of allegedly breaking the country’s chain of command — when he allowed a suspended police chief to launch an operation to get a Malaysian terrorist, which also killed several civilians, 44 special police forces, and 18 Filipino-Muslim rebels in Maguindanao, southern Philippines last January 25 this year, the source said.

The military, an acting police chief, the interior secretary, and the defence secretary were not told about the police operation that was held inside a territory controlled by a Filipino-Muslim rebel group that had forged a pro-autonomy agreement with the Philippine government in 2014.
