Former police official on immigration watchlist

Manila: The Bureau of Immigration has placed on its watchlist a former police official implicated in an alleged attempt to smuggle euros out of Russia last October.
Reports said former national police finance officer, Eliseo dela Paz, has been placed on the immigration bureau's watchlist following a request by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.
The senate wants Dela Paz, until recently the chief of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) finance division, to reveal details of the 105,000 euros (Dh484,465) in cash that Russian customs authorities had found in the official's possession.
Interpol meeting
Dela Paz and his wife Maria Fe had been detained by Russian customs officials at Moscow airport after they failed to declare the cash they were carrying with them on the flight.
Dela Paz had just attended the 77th Interpol Meeting in Saint Petersburg on October 7 when he became embroiled in the scandal while he and his wife were on a return flight to Manila.
Associate commissioner Roy Almoro of the immigration Bureau said they have already deployed teams across the country's ports of exit. In an interview aired by radio station dzBB, Almoro said looking out for Dela Paz is the only thing they can do at this stage as the courts have not yet issued a "hold departure order" on the former officer.
