Manila: The answer of third runner up Shamcey Supsup at the Ms. Universe pageant in Brazil that she will not change her religion to marry someone she loves, got a lot of following among Filipinas in Manila, a TV report said.

"I will remain a Catholic. I will not change my religion to marry someone I love," a young woman told GMA 7.

"No, I will not change my religion," said another young lady. "The man who loves me should change his religion for me," said another woman.

Catholic Church

Supsup's answer at the beauty pageant in Sao Paulo touched many Filipinos, 85 per cent of whom belong to the Catholic Church.

Filipinos who rooted for Supsup, were happy, excited, rowdy full of high expectation as they watched on TV Brazil's pageant.

Architect

Many architecture students at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City where Supsup graduated bachelor of architecture with highest honours, looked gorgeous in their high heels as they watched at school the beauty event on TV.

The local government of General Santos in the southern Philippines sponsored a TV watch for residents to see their favourite town mate Supsup to win in Brazil.

"For us, she is our Miss Universe," many said after she was named the pageant's third runner up.

"We are happy that she has reached third runner up," said Supsup's father Timoteo on TV.

"We should file a protest," chided Senator Miriam Santiago.

Hero's welcome

Many of the TV viewers, from her school to her hometown, vowed to schedule a hero's welcome for her.

Supsup, a combination of beauty and brains, topped the Architectural Licensure Exam last June 2010.

She was not a model and had to train for several months abroad to vie for the Miss Universe crown.
