Congressmen Mariano Michael Velarde Jr and Irwin Tieng filed a bill before the House committee on information and communications technology, asking for six months to 12 years of imprisonment for people convicted of cyber crime.
The congressmen also called for 200,000 pesos up to a 1 million pesos (Dh16,666 to Dh83, 333) fine for convicted cyber-criminals.
“Terrorism as a politically or ideologically motivated criminal act has been a growing concern and menace that haunts the national and international communities,” said Congressman Velarde, adding that the proposed bill also called on the Philippine government to extend global assistance and exchange of data for the prosecution of cyber-criminals.
Cyber attacks, computer attacks, virus attacks, e-mail bombings, e-mail spamming, and hacking could be detected through collection of evidences in electronic form.
These attacks could be fatal because they often lead to plane crashes, destruction of utilities and information system, destruction of government websites, economic sabotage, explosions and water contamination.
