Manila: Philippine President Gloria Arroyo's spouse, Jose Miguel Arroyo, was discharged from the hospital on Sunday afternoon following an emergency that occurred as his wife was on the way to attend the Apec summit in Peru.
A visibly well Miguel Arroyo was seen in video footages emerging from the Saint Luke's Medical Centre accompanied by his sons Mikey and Dato.
He was discharged by physicians at around 1pm. Attending doctors admitted him at the hospital after suffering "infectious diarrhoea with vomiting".
Jose Miguel, referred to simply as "Mike" or "First Gentleman" by the local press suffered stomach cramps and back pain mid-air as he was accompanying the President to attend the 16th Asia- Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) in Lima, Peru.
"I can go home already, I am okay now," Mike was quoted by reports as saying.
Hours before, Mike was seen in photographs inside the commercial aircraft aboard a stretcher and being administered intravenous fluids by nurses.
The emergency situation had prompted the Philippine Airlines flight carrying the couple and the delegation to make a forced landing in Osaka, Japan so that Japanese doctors can attend him.
