KARACHI: Chief of Pakistan Election Commission (PEC) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim Thursday said despite the worsening law and order the surveys and voters lists verifications would be furnished timely in accordance with the Supreme Court orders.
He was talking to media during his monitoring visit to different parts of the city.
Ebrahim, a retired judge, said that he and his team was committed to carrying on the task of holding transparent and impartial elections in the country in the timely fashion.
Different political quarters were lately expressing their concerns that some hidden forces were desiring to postpone the elections in the country and instead an interim government be set up which might rule a longer term.
The government, judiciary and powerful army have dispelled the apprehensions, though.
Ebrahim further said that the army was providing the security to the surveying teams and every thing was going in a smooth way.
The chief of the election commission visited with his staff many a houses in Hyderabad Colony and PECHS and ticked the doors off with the commission code denoting the house was surveyed.
The life of the octogenarian chief of the commission was also under threat according to a letter the commission wrote to the interior ministry.
Earlier, Rehman Malik, the interior minister, has instructed the police chief of providing the security to the election commissioner.

The gunshots were heard by the team of journalists who were following the chief election commissioner for the coverage.
