Islamabad: Sare Davutoglu (48), wife of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu (51) and a practising gynaecologist, has offered to take time out of her schedule to offer her services to flood victims in the country, diplomatic sources told Gulf News.
More than 500,000 Pakistani women affected or displaced by floods are pregnant with minimal specialised medical assistance with winter approaching fast and the reconstruction process in affected areas yet to begin.
Sare Davutoglu is honorary president of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spouses' Association (DMEDD) and she announced her decision at a fund-raising dinner hosted by the Davutoglu couple. The exact dates of her Pakistan visit have not been announced yet.
With around $1.84 million (Dh6.75 million) in donations collected by the DMEDD, a health centre is being built in Pakistan where Davutoglu is set to offer gynaecological treatment for two weeks.
Private donations by Turkish citizens for flood victims has exceeded $125 million. The Turkish Red Crescent Society has assembled and delivered 2,000 pre-fabricated temporary housing units — enough for 10,000 people — while another 1,200 are being readied.
Donation
Besides establishing a modern container camp for 3,000, a third field hospital is being set up in Muzaffargarh. Turkey has officially transferred a $10 million donation to the Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund along with 12 cargo planes ferrying over 500 tonnes of humanitarian relief goods worth over $5 million.
Over a dozen Turkish NGOs will maintain a long-term presence until reconstruction is complete in affected areas.
