Karachi: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, Tuesday alleged that intelligence officials in plainclothes are involed in the abduction of MQM workers.

Hassan, who boycotted a Sindh assembly session yesterday amid chaotic scenes, said 23 MQM workers were missing with the most recent ones kidnapped on Monday.

He criticised Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah for failing in his duties to maintain law and order.

The MQM announced a two-day protest rallies against extra judicial killings and illegal detention of its workers.

The protest will begin in Karachi on Thursday and expand across the country on Friday, MQM’s central leader Haider Abbas Rizivi said.

The party said many of its activists were arrested without any official record of their detention. Rizvi called upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and top police and security chiefs to take serious action against those responsible.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has sought a report from the defence ministry about army officers being allegedly involved in enforced disappearances in Balochistan.

The court has also summoned a DNA test report of bodies recovered from mass graves in Khuzdar.

“Occurrence of such incidents is alarming and these can not be overlooked. We can not see chaos in Balochistan. The elements involved in enforced disappearances should be punished as per law,” Justice Nasir Al Mulk said.
