Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday denounced the US forces' intrusion into Pakistan to kill Osama Bin Laden as a "big blow to national sovereignty, independence and self-respect".
In his first remarks on the American commando operation that killed the Al Qaida leader in his hideout in Abbottabad, Sharif said Pakistan must take "serious notice" of the raid on its soil.
If this was not done Pakistan would stand exposed to "further dangers," said the chief of the main opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, who returned home yesterday after a two-month stay in London where he underwent heart surgery.
Meanwhile, top lawyer Asma Jehangir, who is an internationally known human rights campaigner, demanded a judicial probe into the raid.
She said American interference in Pakistan's internal matters could harm relations between the two countries.
The Pakistani government should not compromise on the country's sovereignty and national interests, said Jehangir, who is president of the Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association.
