Lahore: Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice-Chairperson Shah Mahmoud Qureshi on Wednesday called on the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to clarify its stance on statements made by party member Shehla Raza regarding a silent clause in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

Shehla reportedly claimed that under the NRO, it was guaranteed that there will be no military intervention in Pakistan until three general elections were held in the country.

Qureshi, while speaking to the media in Lahore, said Shehla’s latest revelations were very serious and have caused a political storm. “I fail to understand this; she should explain herself further,” the PTI leader demanded.

Commenting on the specifics of the agreement, Qureshi mockingly asked if the leaders part of the deal found it acceptable to have martial law imposed after the said third election was held.

Qureshi said he was unaware of the deal on the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) despite being the foreign minister at the time.

He said details of the NRO deal should now be divulged. Zardari must disclose the purpose of his visit to the US with a nine-member delegation, he demanded.

Qureshi said his party would not become part of any deal that has anything to do with former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, and called for action against him under the law.

He said the PPP should come up with an explanation for the statement of their party member.

He stressed that a long march will be taken out despite the government’s bafflement. There is no conflict within the PTI ranks regarding the long march, Qureshi said.

The PTI leader said, “Once we entered the D-Chowk, we will certainly score a goal.”

Qureshi added that committees of lawyers had been formed at district levels to tackle any measures by the government to create hurdles during the march.

Lashing out at the government, Qureshi said a proper strategy for accommodation and facilitation for Internally Displaced Persons of North Waziristan was not devised.

Qureshi said the Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Abdul Qadir Baloch has admitted government failure.

He denied any deadlock between PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri.
