Islamabad: The chief of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, has said that President General Pervez Musharraf is not acceptable to the nation with or without uniform and vowed to oust him before the forthcoming general elections.
Addressing a news conference here yesterday, Qazi said the nation should back the efforts of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) efforts to end army's role in politics and restore democracy in the country.
The MMA chief said the country could never hold free and fair elections until Musharraf stayed in power, "because in his presence this process can't be transparent as he has campaigned for a particular party".

"For holding next elections in a free and transparent manner, first Musharraf will have to go and then, an independent Election Commission and impartial interim government will have to be installed."
Qazi demanded the army quit power and do away with its role in politics to prevent people from hating it. He said Pakistan should stop acting as a US colony in the region and prepare policies free from US pressure.
He alleged the government was blindly pursuing the US policies on its soil and in the region. In reply to a question he denied the MMA secretary general Maulana Fazlur Rahman had favoured Musharraf's re-election to prevent martial law.
He said he had spoken to Rahman who categorically denied supporting Musharraf''s re-election and said he was misquoted in the press on the matter.
Regarding the differences among the ranks of the MMA, particularly between him and Fazlur Rahman, Qazi said there were no such differences and that all the parties are united as they were in the past and will remain united in future as well.
