Karachi: Police on Sunday recovered an abducted child after a shootout with the captors and gunned down one of the kidnappers in the western outskirts of the city.

Anti Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) of the police raided the Brohi Goth, near Toll Plaza some 25 kilometres north of the main city. The captors started firing on the police and in the retaliatory firing a captor, Asghar, was killed.

The head of AVCC Niaz Khoso told the media that the Asghar was a rickshaw driver and he kidnapped the six-year child from Sultanabad area on Friday. He demanded 20 million rupees (Dh7.4 million) from the family by calling them on cell phone. The kidnapper was traced through the mobile tracking facility.

Elsewhere, the police arrested three miscreants and recovered Kalashnikovs from their custody. Police said that cases were registered against the three accused under the anti-terrorism act for forcibly closing down the shops in the Mahmoodabad area by threatening them with guns.

Paramilitary rangers also said that they arrested some 28 suspects for disturbing law and order in the city as they forced shopkeepers to down their shutters.

Police also said that two men were killed in different incidents.
