Islamabad: Samina Baig became the first Pakistani woman to climb the seven highest peaks in seven continents in under eight months, media reported on Sunday.

Samina, 23, and her brother Mirza Ali, completed the mountaineering challenge that also including climbing Mount Everest, which they scaled in May 2013, Dawn online reported.

Samina flew out to Russia, after Alaska, where they went on to scale the highest mountain in Europe, Mt Elbrus in Russia, which is 5,642 metres tall, bringing their Seven Summits adventure to an end.

Samina was part of an adventure diplomacy mission, funded by passionate climbers outside Pakistan, a few embassies in Islamabad, with no support from the Pakistan government.

Hailing from Pakistan’s mountainous Hunza Valley, both climbers climbed Mt McKinley, Alaska, reaching 6,168 metres into the sky on July 3.

The duo in December climbed Mt Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest peak in South America.

Then in January, they climbed the highest peak in Antarctica, Mt Vinson, and then the 5,895 metres-high Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in February.
