Karachi: A killing spree continued in Pakistan on Friday as unknown gunmen targeted three men including a mosque’s Imam and a leader of Awami National Party (ANP) whereas a bomb planted on a bicycle outside a mosque was recovered from mass Friday congregation.

A police source said that in Nazimabad unidentified motorcycle riders gunned down a man who was later identified as Maulana Ghazanfar Ali. Ali was the prayer leader at Safeena Mosque in the Toori Bangash Colony.

In Orangi Town another man, Bismillah Khan, was killed. Khan was the local leader of ANP.

Early this morning in Gulshane Iqbal town, a young man called Raheel was killed during an attempted robbery.

In the Old City area residents noticed a bicycle standing outside Gulzare Habib Mosque and a sack was handing on the handle. The suspicious people complained to the police who called the bomb disposal squad. They recovered a homemade time bomb and defused it.

Police said the bomb weighed one kilogram and could have unleashed lethal damage had it blown at the time of Friday congregation when a large number of people turn to offer their prayers.

Meanwhile paramilitary rangers carried a massive crackdown in the airport and SITE areas in which 800 soldiers, including the female force, participated after a tip-off from some suspicious people in the area.

In the operation, rangers arrested two suspects who were allegedly involved in a bank robbery in Federal B Area.
