Islamabad: The Foreign Office’s spokesperson on Thursday said all disputes between India and Pakistan would be discussed with Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar when he visits Pakistan between March 3rd and 4th.

“Kashmir, Siachin, Sir Creek, CBMs and other issues would be discussed with the Indian foreign secretary,” Tasneem Aslam said while responding to queries during the department’s weekly press briefing.

She said Pakistan has already welcomed the Indian initiative.

However, she clarified that nothing more was officially communicated to Pakistan and only media reports claimed certain things.

Some media reports two days ago quoted Indian official as saying all issues including Kashmir would be discussed with Pakistan.

Ties between the two countries remain strained due to Kashmir and in the last over 60 years they fought three wars over the dispute.

Tension between the two neighbouring South Asian powers had been rising in the last months of 2014 and the violation of a ceasefire along the Line of Control and working boundary further aggravated the situation.

US Secretary of State John Kerry urged the two countries, during his visit to South Asia last month, to resume dialogue.

Commenting on a media report, spokesperson Aslam said the establishment of peace is an important pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

She highlighted the key role Pakistan has played in UN peace missions, citing participation in 42 peacekeeping missions.

To a question over Taliban-Afghan government talks, Aslam said Pakistan welcomes the resumption of initial talks between the two sides.

For the first time since 9/11, the Afghan Taliban in principle but silently has agreed to hold talks with Kabul. Pakistan is playing a role of facilitation and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has warmly appreciated Islamabad’s efforts for reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Aslam confirmed a visit by the Senate Chairman to Syria and Iraq. She said there was speculation regarding the presence of Daesh militants in Pakistan, adding steps were being taken to prevent the group gaining a foothold in the country.

She added that Pakistan is taking action against all terrorists and efforts against militants were ongoing.

Before starting question hour, Aslam said that Kyrgyzstan’s foreign minister had arrived in Pakistan on Thursday to meet the President, prime minister and other officials.

On the issue of a raid being conducted on the house of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) country manager in Dhaka, Aslam said they were aware of this and had contacted the High Commissioner of Bangladesh and were awaiting a response from the Bangladesh Foreign Office.
