Islamabad: Pakistan Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has met Chinese President Xi Jinping, a media report said on Monday.

Dar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Representatives from other countries who had also signed the MoU were also present in the meeting, which took place in Beijing on Sunday, Dawn online reported.

Xi renewed his commitment on bilateral ties and said he looked forward to visit Pakistan, a statement issued by the finance ministry said.

Xi hoped that all sides concerned would make efforts to make the AIIB a financing platform of infrastructure construction featuring equality, inclusiveness and high efficiency.

He expressed the desire to make the AIIB a multilateral development bank that meets the demand of all countries in the region.

Dar said the government and people of Pakistan looked forward to his visit.

He said the need for developing new infrastructure was immense in Pakistan, adding they were happy that the bank would provide financial support for meeting infrastructure deficits in different Asian countries and help improve connectivity within the region.
